Spiritual Book Circle

Fear is a powerful force in our world today, but faith offers us a path toward courage and hope. In Fear and Faith: Hope and Wholeness in a Fractured World, Daniel P. Horan, invites us to see how fear can distort our relationships with God, ourselves, and one another, and how faith can open us to healing and love. Our book circle will be a space for conversation, prayerful reflection, and discovering together how we can live with greater wholeness and trust in God.

This book circle provides us with space to read deeply, listen contemplatively, and engage in meaningful conversations about hope, wholeness, and faith in our fractured world. Our sessions will focus on connecting these discussions to the practical ways these themes inform, inspire, and shape our ministry of spiritual direction.

We will gather for four sessions to prayerfully reflect and discuss one chapter at a time. Each meeting will focus on identifying and exploring the chapter’s central themes and how they inform our call as spiritual directors. The objectives for each session include deepening our understanding of the chapter, sharing personal insights, and considering practical applications for our spiritual direction work. Our series will conclude with a special two-hour session featuring the author, Daniel, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, via Zoom.

About the Presenter:

Daniel Patrick Horan is a Catholic American theologian, author, and former Franciscan priest. He is the director of the Center for the Study of Spirituality and professor of Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Theology at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana.
