Event Details
In the fullness of autumn, we discover new ways of seeing Creation, and begin to learn how to change the actions we take that impact the world around us. We will discuss the ways Scripture and Ignatian spirituality guide us in developing this cosmic perspective, and have time for personal reflection and sharing. After a meditation walk through the beautiful garden at St. Joseph Center, we will conclude with outdoor prayer.
Presenter: Paul Schutz, Ph.D., Associate Professor in Religious Studies at Santa Clara University and author of the soon-to-be-published Reimagining Creation: A Theology of Creaturely Flourishing (Orbis Books)
About the Presenter: A native of Evansville, IN, Paul J. Schutz is a Catholic systemic theologian who serves as Associate Professor in the Religious Studies Department at Santa Clara University. His teaching and research focus on the Christian theology of creation, with an emphasis on how contemporary science can inform religious perspectives on humanity and our relationship with other-than-human creatures. Paul entered the world of theology after a career as a professional liturgist and liturgical musician. His current book project explores the potential of "flourishing" to serve as a core category for Christian theology and a basis for cultivating a robust praxis of ecological and social justice.
