Join us in celebrating the birthday of the trees -- and our responsibility to care for the Earth. We are called to partner with our Creator to sustain and mend our world, something this beautiful Seder urges us to call to mind. This interfaith gathering will share the Jewish tradition of Tu BiShvat, culminating in a celebratory communal meal.
About the Presenter:
For the past five years, Rabbi Karen Sherman has served as Director of Spiritual Life at Mission Viejo’s Heritage Pointe, the premiere Jewish assisted living community in Orange County; open to Jewish and non-Jewish seniors, Heritage Pointe is an inclusive community that celebrates Jewish values and traditions. Prior to joining the Heritage Pointe family, Rabbi Sherman served as the first permanent Rabbi of Temple Etz Rimon in Carlsbad, California for 10 years. She was ordained in 2009 at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles. During her tenure as a student, she served as Rabbinic Intern at three congregations and also worked as a Rabbinic Chaplain in the Spiritual Care Department at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Rabbi Sherman followed a calling to the rabbinate as a second career. Prior to entering rabbinical school, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Ecology at University of California at Irvine and a Master’s Degree in Social Work at University of Southern California, and served underserved populations for twelve years as a Social Worker.
